The Strikkenhof estate used to be called Ter Beeten and was a former fief of the counts of Horn.

Although there are no indications that there used to be a castle or a noble house, it is believed that a number of noble owners lived there in the Middle Ages. The octagonal turret was most probably a sign to emphasise noble pretensions.

In the past, the estate had a tower at each corner and was completely walled off. In the 18th century, another tower was built from the bricks of the old wall. This is the only turret that still stands today.
