5x a fresh start:
Walks to recharge
Did you stay up a little too late one evening? It happens. Today, in Hart van Limburg, nothing has to happen at all. No complicated goals, no rush, no big steps or long journeys and certainly no marathon.
The first quarter of the year is all about a slow start. We’ve selected five short walks for you (maximum 6.2 km), just long enough to begin 2026 with a fresh perspective. In Hart van Limburg, you’ll find space to breathe. Along the way, you’ll meet hardly anyone and hear only the crunch of twigs beneath your shoes.
Sometimes, silence is exactly what you truly need. In a world that’s always “on”, having nothing you must do feels like the ultimate luxury. No clock, no buzzing phone, just the fresh wind brushing your cheeks and carrying your thoughts away. Put on your warmest coat, don’t forget your scarf and… breathe in. These are the best places to clear your head and leave your hangover at home.
1. Short walk Nederweert: Sarsven and De Banen (5.6 km)
Water and silence go hand in hand here. In this bird-rich area on the edge of De Peel, you walk past ponds reflecting the clouds above. A place where nature sets the pace. Breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the wide views across the water.
2. Baexem junction walk: Castle and greenery (6.2 km)
Walking with a touch of history, without feeling old-fashioned. This route takes you through the countryside of Baexem, where Baexem Castle appears and the Aurora Mill stands as a quiet reminder of the past. The paths wind through the landscape, perfect for letting your thoughts wander. The mill is regularly open to visitors.
3. Beegden Legends Route: Walking through nature and timeless tales (3.4 km)
This is where you leave the bustle behind. You walk along quiet paths across the Beegderheide, through forest, open plains and sandy stretches, with space in your mind and the Meuse Valley on the horizon. Along the route, information boards share old legends and folktales that linger with you.
4. Happiness Walk Roerdalen: The silence of the forest (6.2 km)
Lace up your walking shoes and step into a forest where the world seems to pause. Among the trees, you’ll find the calm you’re looking for. Let your thoughts settle as you listen to the rustling leaves and the crunch of branches beneath your feet. Take a moment to really listen to the nature around you.
5. Along the banks of the Meuse: Exploring Asselt and De Weerd (6.2 km)
Swap paved paths for rugged greenery along the Meuse, where nature has free rein. In picturesque Asselt, time seems to stand still around the charming Rozenkerk, while in the De Weerd nature reserve you let the breeze clear your head beside the water. Expect grassy stretches, muddy paths and wide, open views across the river.
